Collecting Art on Tezos

A Beginner’s Guide to Objkt

Why Tezos?

Tezos is different from many of the other popular blockchains. It is much more eco-friendly, using the same amount of energy as a single tweet. The platform fees are very low amounting to just a few cents. This makes it the perfect place for exploring photography NFTs without breaking the bank.

Get Your Digital Wallet

Before you start collecting you need a wallet. This is where you will store your digital artworks. And will hold your Tezos, the cryptocurrency that is used on objkt.

I would recommend a Kukai Wallet for total beginners. You can log in using your existing Google, Facebook, Twitter or Reddit account. This is called Direct Authentication and has no complicated “seed phrases” to start. You can set one up with the safer option of a seed phrase. It’s your choice.

The Temple Wallet is also available if you want a more “pro” browser extension feel.

Add some Tezos (XTZ)

Tezos (XTZ) is the currency of the platform. You can buy a small amount through your wallet using a credit card with a service like MoonPay or Wert.

You only need a few dollars to start collecting. You’d be surprise at how much art you can find for 1 XTZ or less (around 30 cents at the moment).

Finding the “Extraordinary” on Objkt

Go to my profile on objkt. Once you are there, you will see all my work in front of you (image above) Next to the title of the image, you will see a number. If it says 1 that means it’s a one-of-a-kind. No other “NFT “token” of it exists. You would own the sole edition and ownership is inscribed in the blockchain.

If you see 5 or 10 (for example) this means it has multiple copies. If you collected one, you would own one out of five or one out of ten.

When you click on the photograph you would like to collect (image above), you can see the title and the edition size (5 eds). Under that is the button to “Buy from Artist” and the amount. You click that and it will ask you which wallet you have and you sign into that wallet.

Once you sign in the NFT is yours. It is officially minted on the blockchain in your wallet. When you buy from the artist you are buying on the “primary” market. You can keep this artwork in your wallet as long as you like.

If you get really into collecting and the art on the blockchain, you can also sell the work you have in your wallet. You can list it on the “secondary” market for whatever you like. The artist gets royalties every time it sells to another person and you get to make some tezos (XTZ) to buy more art.

And that’s it. It sounds like a lot and it did used to be very complicated. Now platforms and wallets have made it very easy to collect.

I hope you will start your digital art journey with me. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me via my contact page.

Have fun!!
