Navigating the deranged algorithm on X
As the algorithm on X gets worse every day, I struggle to understand it and I feel totally disappointed that everything I do there is ignored and buried. I have never understood social media and I refuse to write crap to wind people up or to try and become some kind of “influencer”.
I just want to be seen. If things do not improve there over the summer, my blue tick will be gone. Why would I pay for an app that has no reach for me and no function. I love the friends I have made on the platform and will not disappear completely (despite the effort by X to make me).
However, I will have to rethink the way I behave on the platform. I am trying articles. It’s quite good to be able to keep “important” work permanently in my profile but nobody reads on any social media platform so there’s that!
I have to learn to do things for myself. Ignore the algorithm and let go of the idea that views and engagement are any indication of the value of my work. Ragebaiting or turning yourself into a brand is NOT being an artist.
I wish I had some answers because sales are really down at the moment and I think that’s a direct reflection of what X is doing to most the artists there.
Anyway, I have my home here on my own website, doing whatever I feel like. Writing whatever I want.
