What happens when you spend a month Staring at Walls? We don’t really notice them usually. They are practical objects. Put there to keep us in or out. To build other things. Never just for their own sake.

After a while, they begin to look like paintings. Like abstract art put there for us to enjoy. It was really a good lesson in really looking. Finding a frame that turned an ordinary wall into something else.
I think this is a great represention of what I love in photography. The ability to show you something in a different way. I am more attracted to these urban details than I am to landscapes or pretty nature (although I do those too).

I enjoyed looking at them. Studying the textures and layers of decay. Observing the history underneath. I played around with them for hours. Deciding which ones looked good together and then finding a few that deserved a little spotlight of their own.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this series. Maybe it’s not an obvious choice for someone who likes to collect photography. It’s gritty and rough and maybe even uncomfortable. But I also find them quite beautiful and fascinating. If you are interested in looking into some of the details and my thoughts on what makes art valuable, check out this post here.
