Until I moved to this part of town, I was travelling over an hour each way to and from work. That was my time to read or listen to music but I also did a daily photo. I have hundreds of images of fellow commuters and those journeys on trains and buses.
Now my daily commute is an 8 minute walk.

Despite how short my journey is, I try and take at least one picture of something that catches my eye. Usually a phone picture but sometimes a CampSnap shot.
What surprises me is that there is ALWAYS something of interest to shoot. These images are from just one day!

The “trick” is to stay curious, keep looking, keep wondering. Empty streets in a busy city are striking. The broom left by a lamppost is a busy cleaner taking a break. The cat I see every day still runs away

The suitcase left behind because some new ones were bought for a holiday abroad? Whatever I see that catches my eye has a story. A tiny snapshot of city life and a memory of things I’ve seen. Sometimes this makes me smile. Sometimes I laugh. Sometimes I wonder about other people’s lives and how different or similar they might be to mine.

Why don’t you try it?! Take at least 1 photo every day on your way to and from work. Or on a route you regularly take. One that might be boring or routine for you. I promise you that you will start looking at things differently as your intention changes. That sign you’ve seen a thousand times, takes on new meaning. The street corner you’ve passed by every day somehow looks different.
Try it! Use your phone or any camera you have.
You might surprise yourself. Or the streets will surprise YOU.
Show me what you capture in the comments!
I’d love to see a snapshot of your life.
