When I first started photography, I was learning from my husband — who happens to be a brilliant photographer and a former lecturer in Lens Media at a university in London.
And honestly? I felt excited, but completely intimidated.
It wasn’t because he made me feel small — he’s always been incredibly supportive and is my biggest fan. But when you’re around someone who’s really good at something, you start comparing yourself without even realising it.
For a long time, I thought photography was about catching up. Doing things the same way. Learning the rules. Using the right settings.
It is important to learn the tools — but over time, I’ve realised that what makes my work meaningful isn’t how “right” it is.
It’s how honest it is.
That’s what I wrote about in this week’s blog — not how to take better photos, but how finding your own voice and meaning is important.
